In addition to breeding showdogs, we also have a small hobby farm. Our animals include Nigerian Dwarf dairy Goats, Shetland Sheep, French Angora and Harlequin rabbits, Ducks, Shetland Geese, and Chickens.
The Goats and Rabbits are shown, but the majority of the animals are raised to assist us in a self sufficient lifestyle. We can produce Goat's milk products including cheese, yogurt and soaps. We also regularly enjoy rabbit meat for stew and fresh eggs and meat from our poultry. The dogs really enjoy their raw diet supplements of meat, yogurt and eggs.
We have Shetland sheep and French Angora rabbits for the fiber they produce, which we use by spinning or needle felting. And just as importantly, all the animals including the showdogs contribute to our compost for our %100 organicly grown herbs and vegetables. We also enjoy working with other hobby and organic farms in a co-op to trade for goods and services which we can't produce.
The best part of our "mini-farm" is that it's all done on 3 acres in the middle of Indianapolis! Not your typical idea of a farm is it? But we highly encourage everyone to take their part in living "Green" wether you live on 100 acres or in a high rise condo, everyone and anyone can take steps to a Greener way of life. |
